A former Police Staff Sargeant from the Secret Society Branch was hauled to court today for allegedly obtaining two corrupt loans from a pub owner in 2003.

In exchange for the loans, the nightspot operator was told that he would be easily let off the hook should the authorities raid the two pubs belonging to the owner in their anti-crime operations.

Thirty-nine year old Ganesan Maniam also allegedly failed to report a man who was selling pirated computer software in 2006.

Shaffiq Alkhatib with more.

Ganesan allegedly obtained the loans, amounting to $6,000 in all, from pub owner, Andrew Rajendran Govindasamy in 2003.

The Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau says, Rajendran owns two pubs - namely Ragawood and Club 6 Music Lounge located at Block 6A Perak Road in the Jalan Besar area.

It's believed Ganesan also failed to report one Mok Chee Kin for selling pirated software at Bedok Central.

Ganesan looked calm when the three charges were read out to him.

The tall, dark-complexioned man said, he intends to engage a lawyer.

The case will be mentioned next Tuesday.

Ganesan is now out on a $10,000 bail.

His passport was also impounded.

If convicted of corruption, Ganesan could be fined up to $100,000, jailed a maximum of five years or both.

For neglect of duty, he could be fined up to $1,000, jailed a maximum of six months or both.

yes, of course you can report it. an investigation will be opened and the officer will become the defendant instead.

but making allegations such as these are also a common tactic. hence, if the allegations against the officer made were found to be untrue, and only made in an attempt to stall investigations, then the accused will be hit doubly hard.

All things can be reported, but your version against police version, chances are police version will be more believable, especially with judges.

Because certain knda of cases has certain powers, like detaining you more then 48 hours and so on. Or breaking into you house with a battering ram by CNB.

Or if you were actually guilty of one crime and made to confess to others, there is certain rules allowing interogations.

But then, its understood, if you are involved in cases that included women and children, the jail and its 'services' is where you will be duly 'rewarded'.

A officers are 'reported' at any one time or another. One who never received any 'reports' are ones that was never on patrol or even talking to people.
